LEU
(Linside Electronic Unit)
Applications Fields
The LEU component is part of the European Train Control System (ETCS) which itself is a subset of the European Railway management system (ERTMS). According to the ERTMS/ETCS SRS applications, discontinuous information can be provided by using LEUs and Eurobalises. LEUs are developed in compliance with the ERTMS/ETCS specifications.
Overview
The LEU, together with Eurobalise sub-system, is a spot transmission system to send information from the trackside infrastructure to a train (up-link) along the track.
The ETCS telegrams of the LEU are modulated onto the carrier signal in a balise.
The transmitted signal lies within a frequency range of 4MHz and conforms to the relevant the Radio equipment Directive 2014/53/EU (RED).
The data from the Lineside Electronic Unit (LEU) is transmitted transparently by balise to the train borne equipment. The distance between the LEU and the balise is up to 5km.
HARDWARE/SOFTWARE CONFIGURATIONS
The hardware configuration can include these input/output boards:
Digital input board (12 channels)
Analog input board (8 channels)
Ethernet input/output board
Key ID board
Balise driver board (4 channels)
The software configuration data are:
Key ID (unique identification code)
Input Parameters (thresholds and filters)
Lookup Table
The commissioning or maintenance staff download the configuration file into the LEU by a service Ethernet connection.
The identification key is a code that must match with the value stored by the configuration tool in the hardware key. This key is locked to the cabinet with a small chain.
Safe and reliable
Use of hardware 2oo2 fail-safe platforms that are already well established and tested by ECM ensures the safety requirements of the system, developed in accordance with CENELEC Standards EN50126, EN50128, EN50129 with an integrity level of SIL4.
